I had the honour of leading the National Assembly’s joint 2024 budget defence for agriculture production, services, and rural development.
Yesterday, I joined my esteemed colleagues from the two chambers in a critical budget session to ensure proper allocation and utilisation of resources for our vital agriculture sector.
This budget process is crucial because it determines how we invest in the sector that, aside from oil, is the largest contributor to our nation’s GDP.
Agricultural funding currently falls short of the Maputo Declaration commitment of 10%, despite its immense contribution to our GDP. This needs to change.
I strongly urge the Executive to prioritise agriculture and allocate at least 10% of national budgets to unlock its potential for poverty reduction, food security, and economic growth.
Together, we can transform lives and build a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.
